Overnight Oats Get A Healthy Ramadan Makeover
Cooking in times of quarantine has been a roller coaster of emotions. I'm glad I keep getting recipe suggestions from people, today's dessert comes from @butterbelieveit, who made the traditional mahalabiyeh into a healthy Ramadan snack! I know we were all excited at the beginning, some people were making bread (By the way, I found a healthy banana bread recipe you've got to try!), others focused on dessert, and a few tried to make their Arab ancestors proud by making stuffed grape leaves, stuffed zucchini, hummus, and mana’eesh.
Easy and Healthy Arabic Dessert Made Easy
Have you noticed there’s been a lack of Middle Eastern desserts on Instagram and the web? Whether you’re living in your home country or you’re an expat in Dubai, Jordan, London, KSA, USA, or anywhere around the world, I know you want to get a taste of that good Middle Eastern dessert. Some people shy away from attempting them because they have a reputation of being a little harder to make and the high number of calories they bring to the table. But what’s life without some ma’moul (cookie filled with dates or nuts), kunafeh (pastry layered with cheese, nuts, and cream), or muhalabeyeh (Middle Eastern pudding)? A little dull, if you ask me!
Make Easy & Healthy Mahalabiyeh At Home
Thankfully, I got a recipe for mahalabiyeh that’s super healthy AND you don’t have to be an expert baker to make it. Thanks to @butterbelieveit, who added my all-time favorite ingredient... oats! (Check out these blogs to find out why I love oats so much).
Healthy Ramadan Snack Or Suhoor
You can make mahalabiyeh for a snack or suhoor. You'll get that pudding-like yummy texture as well as the fibers your body needs for the next day. If you're not sure why you need fibers, I have an entire podcast episode dedicated to it! Definitely worth listening to if your digestion isn't doing great after a day of fasting.
